Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott

What an emotionally powerful and thought-provoking book! Yes, it's a YA book, and yes it could be reminiscent of TFIOS, however there are some major differences. For one, there are a plethora of things I learned from this book that I didn't know before about CF. For another, there are many themes throughout this book that are not necessarily addressed in other YA novels of it's kind.

I liked the theme of survivor's guilt woven through this book. There's also the question of terminal illnesses and how they can affect different people so differently. Even if the illness is the same and the people are of the same age range. I can only imagine what these people have to go through knowing their time is limited and knowing they are going to have to leave behind the people they care about.

There is also the question of transplants and weighing the decision of whether a few years of extended life is worth the risks of the surgery itself, or having to say goodbye to things you might not be ready to say goodbye to.

Of course, under it all is a romance. I know it was a quick insta-love type YA situation, but in this case it was so totally believable because of the circumstances both teens were in.

In the end, yes, I bawled my eyes out, but I will still recommend this book 100%. It was heart-wrenchingly beautiful and I can't wait to see if they did the book justice with the film adaptation.
