What Val wants most is to be a good daughter. That means, getting good grades, having good behavior, and most importantly being thin. But why is it that even though she's doing everything she's supposed to, Val can't seem to obtain happiness?
I really enjoyed this graphic novel for the most part. Victoria Ying's art and colorwork is amazing, and I felt like she handled the subject of disordered eating (which was clearly close and difficult for her) well. Unfortunately, the end of the book is extremely rushed. The book details Val's growing struggles, but once she hits the tipping point and decides that things need to change, the reader just gets a montage of all the changes she makes. It's not that I want to see Val struggle with her eating disorder, I just want to see her determination to overcome, and the support she builds around herself.
