This was one of those books that I was really excited about. I was in the library, restraining myself from getting any books out due to the large pile I already have at home, when I saw this one. And there was no stopping myself getting this one, I just had to read it. I hadn't even realised that Morris Gleitzman had written a fifth book!
I remember loving all the other books (apart from Now) soo much, loving the simplistic style and the light-hearted voice of Felix narrating through horrible war scenes.
But, sometime since then, my tastes in reading have changed.
This book just didn't give me enough to be satisfied. There was too much "Felix got in trouble, then five minutes later he was in more trouble, so then he did a really difficult operation in what felt like two minutes, and then got in more trouble, all in the same chapter."
Or at least that's what it felt like.
I remember reading Morris Gleitzman's tips to aspiring writers, and he said something about "I just focus on the feelings I want to get across in each chapter." However, I felt like this book had a severe lack of emotion, or at least was lacking something which meant it was hard to get that close to the characters.
I think these books are great for younger children or tweens who want to learn more about the war. However, I didn't particularly enjoy this book.
