Ballad of Jasmine Wills
by Lee Rozelle
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I started this book, but I think it both met my expectations and took a sharp U-Turn away from them. I felt that the first two parts of the book went a little slow for me. I would have liked there to be more mystery about the characters and their motivations, and I thought that the multiple flashbacks really slowed down the narrative for me. I wanted to be more engaged with what was happening with Jasmine in that moment and discover things later in the book
I probably enjoyed part three the best, especially when I think that the action and unveiling of things in that part stood the strongest out of everything. I wish that the book had been more paced like that section.
All in all I found myself rooting for Jasmine a lot more than I thought I would. I find it very ironic that she and I are close to the same weight, and think that the book goes to show that society really does not understand weight and women's bodies. I wish that there had been more space given to Jasmine's feelings of body dysmorphia regarding how her body changed after loosing the weight. I think it would have been very interesting to see her thoughts at that point. At the end of it, I would classify this book as being firmly in the genre of "Good for her!" because good for Jasmine. I will happily eat my sausage biscuit in the car to honor her.

Jasmine knifed that guy with a broken bottle. As a truly violent woman myself, it was therapeutic. All in all I found myself rooting for Jasmine a lot more than I thought I would.
