Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
5.0

I can definitely see why this book is revered as a classic and masterpiece. It took me a couple of chapters to get into the story and used to the dialect, but I quickly fell in love with Zora Neale Hurston’s writing and Janie as a character. She is resilient, curious, open-hearted and courageous. And I think all the reviews below about her or the book not being feminist enough are ridiculous and clearly don’t take the time or culture into account. I found Janie to be authentic and inspiring, and the book riveting. First book in a long while that I’ve finished with a sigh of contentment at its beauty and completeness. It has definitely inspired me to read more classics by black female authors.
