Emily McIntire's dark romances are retellings of well-known fairy tales and Disneys, and I'm frankly ashamed to admit that it took me almost a third of the book to figure out that this was a retelling of The Lion King. Yet it was right there in front of me! The title of the book is Scarred, and the main male character is called 'the scarred prince' and when I realized it was Scar, I let out an 'aaaaaaaaaaah' of understanding that must have been heard all the way to Paris. It was obvious, but I missed it for too long, and the breakthrough only made the book better.

Who knew Scar was so sexy after all?

Anyway, I was already won over by Hooked, the rewrite of Peter Pan and the story of its favorite pirate, and I found myself completely absorbed by Scarred too. Emily has a way of writing her villains that makes me irrevocably fall under their spell and swoon for them, and the fact that her female characters are so strong and combative and feral also helps a lot!

Les dark romances d'Emily McIntire sont des réécritures de contes et disneys connus, et j'ai franchement honte d'avouer que ça m'a pris presque un tiers du livre pour comprendre qu'il s'agissait ici d'une réécriture du Roi Lion. Pourtant, c'était là, juste sous mes yeux ! Le titre du livre est Scarred, et le personnage principal masculin est surnommé 'the scarred prince' et quand j'ai compris qu'il s'agissait de Scar, j'ai poussé un 'aaaaaaaaaaah' qui a dû s'entendre jusqu'à l'autre bout de la France. C'était pourtant évident, mais ça m'a échappé pendant trop longtemps, et la découverte n'en a rendu le livre que meilleur.

Qui avait deviné que Scar était aussi sexy après tout ?

Bref, j'étais déjà conquise par Hooked, la réécriture de Peter Pan et l'histoire de son pirate préféré, et j'ai été complètement absorbée par Scarred aussi. Emily a une manière d'écrire ses méchants qui me fait irrémédiablement tomber sous leur charme et vibrer pour eux, et le fait que ses personnages féminins soient aussi forts et combattifs et sauvages aident aussi beaucoup !
