Problematic Summer Romance
by Ali Hazelwood
Ok my review will have spoilers, and I want to preface with I'm not a supporter of age gap relationships with people under the age of 25, and I'm a huge Ali Hazelwood fan. The grad student dating her professor was already pushing it for me. HOWEVER I think this book was done as well as it could have been without having them get together once Maya was AT LEAST 25. I'm in my 30s and I truly see people that young as babies now. The kid jokes gave me the ick because they're TRUE. So I appreciated how hard Conor fought against it, and was very preoccupied with doing his best not to take advantage of her. Still think it wasn't cool and ok, and they shouldn't have even considered marriage that early. However I recognize this is a work of fiction, and early 20s me may have thought this was great and pointed out at least Conor has had enough time for the pre frontal cortex to develop :) This particular book just does not have the same appeal to me in my 30s, but Ali is such an incredible writer, it still gets a high score from me.
