Emily is sick of the emotional, verbal, physical abuse from her husband Mark. He belittles any joy she gets that does not involve being a mother to their son Jake. So she sets up a plan to finally be free of him. This story highlights how women in abusive marriages (or any kind of abusive situation) are expected to be quiet and just put up with the abuse for the sake of appearing to be a happy family. The cover of this book is what originally drew me to read this, but the writing is stellar and I will read more ofC.M. Guidroz's stories.
