“Hazard heard plastic crack; he was holding the DVD case too tightly, but he didn’t care. Somers was transformed in front of him. The blond man looked lit up from the inside, his perfect features radiant, a huge, dumbass smile on his face. A thousand years ago, Hazard thought in a distant corner of his mind, men had seen angels like this.”
a thing that i think happened was that maybe i read too many gregory ashe books in a row, waay too fast, and so they started to taste stale. they got denser the further along we went and it's difficult to handle people committing the same mistakes almost over and over.
i didn't wany hazard to leave the force. i didn't want hazard to butt his head into the investigation and get both of them into trouble. i didn't want him jealous and depressed. and, most of all, i didn't want somers to suck at handling things all over again.
but i can say whatever i want about how dense and tiring ashe's writing can be, it doesn't matter, because he whips out stuff life this:
“That’s what it feels like, I guess. Like I’m not just me anymore. Like I’m all tied up with him, and sometimes, being tied up with him is the only thing holding me together, holding me in place.”
man, what could about possibly complain about him???
