An interesting read about a Black biologist, his love affair with nature, his experience working in a mainly white field, and his life growing up. I wanted a little more focus on his work but we spend a lot of time on his childhood, but his writing is beautiful so I didn’t mind in the end!  I like what he says about academia being like a bubble, where all these scientists write indecipherable (except to each other) papers about important stuff everyone should be aware of to do with our planet, but no one outside these circles reads them. Lanham wants to change that, to bring nature and science to a wider audience and this book is a great way to do that
