Disney Princess: Jasmine's New Pet by The Walt Disney Company
2.0

That really crappy moment your internet shuts down seconds before you press save. It was the most effort I had ever put into a review as well and I'm terrible at writing a coherent review so double disappointment for me. Lets try again.

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.
It came in the mail and it was beautiful wrapped, it was signed. It's the first book I have ever had signed so this I was incredibly exciting moment and it will sit proudly on my bookshelf.

"Say yes" starts with Ellie starting a new job as a library teacher. She comes across as a touch reserved and then meets Marcus, the resident hot teacher. He is over the top charming, she is a bit of an arse. I should point out that I know that they were aiming for sarcastic and funny, but I felt like the dialogue was awkward, sloppy and a bit over the top.
They are happy, they aren't happy and it follows on like a standard romance.

The book seemed to skip over the issues and just cover them superficially. Considering how in depth the book went into her day to day routine as a library teacher and how often the characters shower, I expected a little more. Seriously I know people shower everyday I don't need to be told.

Ellie wasn't a strong character. She was rude, selfish and a complete hypocrite. The way she handled the Penny situation pissed me off. I understand that characters need to show growth throughout a book but I didn't actually see any growth from her until the last couple of pages. Any time she stepped forward and tried anything new it was because another character had forced her into the situation, whether it be Marcus or her dad it was never her.

Marcus was the perfect boyfriend in every way. He was unrealistic. He was also incredibly good looking. I know this because I was told how hot he was, he had an amazing body, an awesome arse, beautiful hair and green eyes, every couple of pages.

I think the book could have used an editor. There were quite a few mistakes, some big others small, and they started on the first page. On page 1 Ellie is walking into the school ground and notices all the little sets of eyes on her, wondering who she is. Yet on page 3 we discover that its actually a student free day. There are no kids at school yet.
There were plenty of words missing or sentences with extra words.

I wanted to like this book and it was a very easy read. It only took me a few hours. I'm really torn on how to rate it. I was swinging between a 2 and a 3 while reading and i'm still unsure now. It has a fair bit of potential, but I think between the layout and editing issues and the lack of depth and development of the characters it realistically sits at a 2.5 stars.
I'm sure others will like it, the ratings definitely say that's the case but it just didn't work overall for me.
