I’ve absolutely loved everything I’ve read by T. Kingfisher (which admittedly isn’t a lot yet), and this one is no exception. I just couldn’t put it down and finished it in under 24 hours! I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is, but there’s something in her writing that just drags me in in a way few authors do.
I adored Hester’s perspective — and Cordelia’s, but especially Hester’s! Between this book and Nettle & Bone, I like how Kingfisher writes more mature protagonists (only ~30s in Nettle & Bone if I remember correctly, but that’s still older than many fantasy books).
