Princesses Wear Pants
by Allison Oppenheim, Savannah Guthrie
lighthearted
medium-paced
I’m glad to see that this just isn’t a different version of Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots. This book instead of saying that you can be a princess while you wear hiking boots or you can be a princess while you wear pants instead says that you may be a princess but to get stuff done, you need to wear pants. That sometimes skirts get in the way and that the job is more important than the fashion. I like the message of this book. The book rhymes decently. However, the cadence has many places where it switches and or faults. This isn’t a bad first effort and there was a co-writer which I do think it’s helpful. Do I think this is the best book that will be talked about for 20 years? Most likely not. But was it a good effort and would a child who picks it up enjoy it? Yes, I believe they would.
