Journalist Nellie Bly has herself commited to Blackwell Island asylum under the name "Nellie Brown" so that she can observe and report the experience.

I was anticipating more detail, and quite honestly more gruesome detail. It was a succinct read, and I maybe didn't enjoy the narrative as much as anticipated. However, the fact that she did this as a young woman at that time was amazing, and made this worth the read. The illustration of her commitment to social justice, and resulting whistle blowing, made me glad to become familiar with this work. Overall, well worth the 2 hours is took to read.
