Down South Bayou: A Black Sapphic Romance
by Aricka Alexander
let me start off by saying how happy i am to have read another sapphic book with TWO black fmcs, written by a black author. i will said i did adore the characters & their corniness. this was very much stereotypical lesbian shit, engaged & moved in after 5ish months. but as a wlw, I GET IT. when you know you know! 😅
while i do plan to continue reading the bayou series, i do feel like the writing style lacked character & depth. i feel like first person can sometimes take away from the descriptive quality. the storyline was dope, i enjoyed it so much but i feel like i was reading a wattpad story written by a YA & not an adult romance novel, in the most respectful way. i will continue to be honest about the quality of the books AND still read them because i hope over time the writing style becomes more developed.
it's important to me that i support lgbtqia+ authors who DO write black sapphic romance stories because there's not enough representation, imo! overall tho, i give the story a 3.5/5 ⭐️
