The writing style, setting, and pacing worked for me in this book, but I didn't care much about the characters or the danger they were in. I also don't think Leah's ability to track gold added anything to the story and it should have been expanded more than it was in this book, but the next book will hopefully add to the magic. I don't think Walk on Earth a Stranger added anything to the young adult genre that I haven't seen in other YA westerns about girls dressing as boys and going on an adventure, but I think, if the characters and magic are more developed in the other books in the trilogy, I could enjoy the series more than I liked this book.
