Wow, this was so incredible and beautiful but heartbreaking and moving all at the same time. Before I begin, I feel I would be remiss if I did not say that you should take the trigger warnings very seriously. If you are at all sensitive, then this may not be for you. There are some very graphic scenes in this book, from domestic violence and abuse to rape. But, they are not done just for show or unnecessary; believe me when I say, they are necessary to tell the story of Iris and her journey from hell, to surviving, to thriving. There were moments I had go put this down and go do something else because it's hard to stomach but I think it's a story that needs to be told, especially because we so often hear, "Why didn't she just leave? Why did she stay so long?" Because, as we see here, it's never that simple, and there is so much more than meets the eye. It's so important to remember and equally as important to read a story like this one. It has to be told. I loved the romance between August and Iris and the mountains he wanted to move to help her, to comfort her, to protect her and to show her not all men are the same, that she's strong and brave and that she's worthy of love and care and a beautiful life. This was so well written and a great story, even with the heavy subjects. Maybe even because of the heavy topics. I cannot say enough about this book, but it evoked so emotion and it will not soon be forgotten.
