Well, that ending hurt.

I love this book! I don’t know why I have never heard of it until recently. Although this is a YA book I felt it could be appropriate for adult readers as well. It gave me very much Romeo and Juliette vibes.

I enjoyed the premise of looking at the world as if native African people had colonised the European people. It mirrors our world but with African (crosses) being the more privileged group of as opposed to the European (naughts). Nothing was very different from we’ve seen throughout history with the exception of the racial hierarchy switch. However, the author did a great job drawing you in and demonstrating how arbitrary race truly is- roles could have been switched.

I found this book to be a page turner and a must read. I’ll be continuing the series
