Icebreaker

This book was a super fun rom-com! I liked Nate and Anastasia, both separately and together. There was a lot of humour (I love funny books) and spice and I really love any type of skating book (hockey or figure skating), so I liked that this had both AND Nate tried figure skating for a little while too.
But, I had some things I really didn’t like. It was marketed (to me, at least) as an enemies to lovers (or rivals/annoyances to lovers, whatever you want to call romcom enemies to lovers) but they hooked up way too soon, so none of that tension was there. I like slow burn and this just wasn’t that. The second thing was that I think the author took all of the popular romance tropes on TikTok and threw them into this book, even when they didn’t fit. If I had to read another awkward placement of “good girl” I was going to throw the book. Don’t build the scene around the trope, guarantee I won’t like it then. It needs to be organically put into the scene.
Not to leave this on a negative note, so, overall, I would definitely recommend it to people who like hockey/sports romance with funny, spicy, and serious parts! Just be ready for trope-city.
