Waiting for the Flood
by Alexis Hall
I really enjoyed this story for what it was. A look into someone trying to overcome the insecurities and grief of having your partner fall out of love with you after a decade. Which is really freaking scary when you think about it. Edwin meets Adam and comes to terms with some things that he had been holding back, with the help of the ever fun old lady neighbor and a small natural disaster.
I thought it was written really well in the mindset of Edwin. He has a distinct voice which really came across in his internal monologue. I can see how some people aren't fans, but to me it just seems like that's his character and how he talks. Maybe a bit pretentious but when you're surrounded by old books and don't talk a lot, it's pretty easy to form your own little world. I loved how genuine and kind Adam was. This wasn't an epic love story, it was more of part 1 of long romance that will go on after the story ends. I think they fit really well together, and to me the beginning of their story is the epic part.
Very loosely connected to Glitterland, sadly no Essex accent, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Read if you like:
• novellas
• disability rep - stuttering
• short and sweet
