The Martian Chronicles
by Ray Bradbury
Every Halloween I make it my mission to seek out Bradbury stories I haven't read yet. The Martian Chronicles is what I've chosen for 2018.
There really is no other writer like Ray Bradbury. How he describes other worlds is unparalleled, making an alien world seem so familiar even though it is light years away. He can somehow make a story horrific, beautiful, and funny in just the span of a few pages. It's like some kind of magic.
Even though I'm not very fond of science fiction, Bradbury knows how to make a story appealing without having solely to depend on plot and setting. Usher II, probably my favorite story in this collection, is all about a bibliophile's revenge on those that dared to censor and burn the works of Poe, Lovecraft, and other horror authors. This is a story that could appeal to any book lover.
In the rankings of anthologies, this would be in the second favorite category, after The October Country and before The Illustrated man.
