What a disappointment. This book is terrible and I simply cannot make myself understand why it has so many 5 star reviews. Is it because of GoT? 

I'm quite sure Benioff went on Reddit, looked up the most male-heavy subs and their top comments and based their characters personalities (or lack thereof) on them because why else would they be completely one-dimensional and cliche?

We have two guys: the first one, a blonde Aryan hero, is obsessed with taking a shit (you know, as men are, apparently) being a narcissistic Casanova. The other one, an ugly, big-nosed Jew, obsessed with losing his virginity and critiquing women's appearances because how dare they not be pleasing to the eye in wartime. 
I lost count how many times they talked about taking a shit, penises and sex. As if that is all that men think about, even when they are deprived of sleep, in danger of death and famished.
Every time I got into the story and felt like it took a turn for the better, my eyes had to read another sentence about Kolya not being able to take a shit or Lev being jealous that all the ladies like the Aryan-looking guy.
The ending was predictable too. Honestly, writing all this out, even 2 stars seems too generous for this absolute trash.
