Lovecraft: An American Allegory (Selected Essays on H. P. Lovecraft)
by Donald Burleson
5 stars. A variety of topics and themes and approaches on Lovecraft’s works to be found here. Most employ deconstruction in their analysis which I’m not expert in but others also use some cryptology and a bit of psychological analysis and new criticism. Many different stories and characters are addressed and honestly I think it’s great as a variety pack for those looking to write multiple articles on Lovecraft or those simply looking for different ways to understand the text. Not sure why the only other review for this text is so negative but my only comment there is if you KNOW you don’t like deconstruction and are immediately suspicious of anything by Burleson then why even bother reading this? For everyone else, I highly recommend this text. Very glad I grabbed a copy.
