Volume 1 of [b:Heartstopper: Volume One|40495957|Heartstopper Volume One (Heartstopper, #1)|Alice Oseman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1541887843s/40495957.jpg|62811229] follows the characters Charlie and Nick in their journey from classmates, to best friends to perhaps something more . Charlie Spring is the only out gay student at his all-boys school, and this volume doesn't necessarily go into detail pertianing to the bullying that he suffered but it is referred to throughout the narrative. WHICH KILLS ME BECAUSE CHARLIE IS A PRECIOUS BEAN WHO NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED. At this point, Charlie is 'popular' and everyone seems to know him because of the fact that he's gay, but everyone likes him because he's sweet. I won't 'spoil' the comic (although it is an online web comic and has been for years) but Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson meet BECAUSE IT'S FATED OKAY?!
In their form group, which is like homeroom, they sit next to each other and eventually a few words here and there, turn to conversations and friendship. My favourite scenes occur when Nick persuades Charlie to try out for the rugby team and oh gosh, so adorable. Oseman has this insane ability to beautifully write the emotional journey towards figuring out these two boys are in love with each other. Especially with Nick's character - who assumed he was heterosexual - Oseman depicts his confusion and questioning of himself with such dignity and realism; there's no utilising this aspect of his character journey as a token of drama, but instead, Nick is going about his daily life and trying to figure his ish out.
I love the representation and I adore Oseman for giving such a wonderful, pure story of these two boys.
BUT NOW I NEED VOLUME TWO and I know I can read it online BUT I WANT TO SUPPORT THIS WONDERFUL AUTHOR OKAY LET ME LIVE.
Re-read: 10/08/19 AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER THE SCOND TIME I READ IT.
