This was a beautifully written memoir that ties together growing up born in a cult (Children of God) and later joining the army, and how group behavior and programming have similar (usually negative) manifestations in any type of group. Daniella's story is at times heartbreaking, often traumatic, but also triumphant. I listened to her interview on the Little Bit Culty podcast and knew I wanted to read her story. Learning that she is only three years older than me made her story even more impactful.
