This is one of those books that you casually started reading and it slowly devoured your mind with the characters and their journey. One minute you are getting to know the book, the next you are on a first-name basis, and you are not even aware when it happened!
The writing in this book! Amazing!
Reading the first book, since the world-building is so rich, was a bit rough at first and the impression of the first book is a bit heavier. But with this book, where the world is already defined and we only get to know it better, you get to see how the writing brings richness to the story... there is not a single page that does not have a sentence worth annotating.
It feels as if the author is giving us small mind presents all throughout the story, wrapped in beautiful prose.
This is one of those stories that if you dissect it and look only by characters or by events in the book you would not have the interest in reading further or be invested in the story...but there is something magical in how the story is put together and how it grabs your attention slowly and it carefully gets under your skin and transfers you into their world and the next thing you know, you are a side character in the story, witnessing all the events and trying to understand them fully.
Every character is likable and not likable. A lot of gray areas in multiple layers bring a world so similar to real life, to the cruelty of making decisions from the heart and mind which are very often in collision with each other.
Everyone is wrong and everyone is right... There is no black and white, there is only gray...
This story was a bit slower action vise but it sets its environment and characters where they needed to be for the next and final event. Some of the events could have been resolved much easier but that is the connection to real life, not everything goes how we plan it. The cards are dealt, so you choose whether you play or you fold...
