Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide
by J.K. Rowling
I loved it, because I love Harry Potter and more Harry Potter is always good news for me, but it didn't answer any of my burning questions about the Sorting Hat. Is it imbued with some sort of precognition? How else can you judge a child of eleven and place them into one of four boxes? How many futures has the Hat shaped by this very simple act of social stratification? Nearly a thousand years. Truly, one of the most powerful characters in the series and yet seen only as a talking object one must haul out once a year. How very Slytherin.
