Roderick Blackwood & The Demon Stone
by Ralph Rathbone
Pretty cool sounding synopsis, huh? I certainly thought so when I was asked to review this book! And the story and plot did not disappoint in that regard – it was definitely interesting and moved along at a good pace. The characters were witty and amusing, and I was definitely surprised by the twist at the end! However, I have to admit that I had a little trouble getting into the story and staying in the story, because to me it read almost like a play instead of a book. There was a lot of “stage direction” for lack of a better description that sometimes got in the way of the narration.
That’s not to say that it was bad or not worth reading – on the contrary, I’m really glad I kept with the story, because like I said, the plot was spot on, and I was definitely amused throughout. In fact, by the time I reached about 40% (I read it on my Kindle) I was really annoyed with work for interrupting my reading! This is definitely an interesting take on the idea of demons and magic, and it’s definitely worth your time.
