In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken
5.0

Rating: ***** Suggested Age: 13

I couldn’t have asked for a better finale to The Darkest Minds trilogy. In The Afterlight tied every loose end and made me extremely happy. I didn’t find it nearly as slow or confusing as Never Fade and I was hooked throughout the book. Alexandra Bracken writes so well and descriptively, leaving not a detail out. Her writing makes for great dystopias, in which there are a lot of things to keep track of and be described. Not to mention, her characters are out of this world. Liam is so perfect and wonderful. I just want to wrap my arms around him (or marry him, either one’s good). Ruby is an extraordinary main character and not lacking in any aspect whatsoever. I love Chubs so much and Vida even grew on me as a complex, but not always perfect character. The only characters I can say I truly despised were Clancy and Cole. Clancy is one of those characters that most people have a general dislike for, but Cole was a little different, I just never warmed up to him.

When I finished this book, I was left with that bittersweet feeling of being satisfied with the ending and wanting to scream at the same time. It was over. I wasn’t going to read about these characters again. The series was over. However, I can’t say that the ending was disappointing. It was bittersweet as most endings are and I suppose that’s just how it is.

I highly recommend picking up this series. I don’t think you’ll regret it at all. It’s a fantastic series with fantastic characters and feels in all the right spots.
