This was my first Gaskell novel, and I am so glad I read this. I was told this is a Victorian version of Pride and Prejudice. While there are some similarities, this book has so much more. Gaskell does a masterful job of exploring the relationships between "masters" and "workers" in the industrialized setting. The characters are complex, and the love story is absolutely beautiful.
