The Mechanics of Yenagoa by Michael Afenfia
4.0

I wanted a light read so I picked up The Mechanics of Yenagoa and it's exactly what I needed. I still find it difficult to convince some of my fellow Nigerians to read Nigerian fiction. Why? The common complaint is that our books are always heavy in themes and issues. I get it, you don't want to be conned into studying social anthropology every time you pick a book. I'm devoting some of my time this year to reading light reads so y'all can stop giving me reasons to not read a book! The Mechanics of Yenagoa is a hilarious trip, so much drama. I couldn't stop shaking my head and laughing. The language is very authentic to the region(I asked Bayelsa people, so don't come for me) The writing is witty and fast-paced, I really enjoyed reading this. If you're in a reading slump, give this go, if you need something light after your very heavy reads, give this a go too.
