Not exactly what I was expecting, we learn more about Nazi Germany than the Indian Caste system, but this is an excellent blend of history, analysis, and personal anecdotes which perfectly illustrate Wilkerson's point.

The chapter detailing the anthropological study undertaken by two couples--one white and one Black--was brilliant and I wished there was more about their findings. The lengths they went to in order to study southern culture was breathtaking. Meeting secretly in cars to analyze their fieldwork notes, tricking the leaders of the southern town to let them in, pretending the white anthropologist was the head of the team, even though it was the black anthropologist. They conducted their research for years and years in one town, all in the end to be scooped by the shoddy fieldwork of mere months by white researchers who had to keep switching towns because they kept getting caught! I will definitely be reading more about their work if I can and I will also be reading Wilkerson's first book, The Warmth of Other Suns.
