This book pulls at your heartstrings with its beautiful one sided phone call narrative in the life of a teenager coming of age and encountering grown up family issues. It's funny, dramatic, and relatable. Luciana, the main character, is an expressive young woman contemplating the realities of life when she becomes the primary caretaker, translator, and nurse to her ailing abuela. On top of it all, she's also struggling with her family's refusal to her sexual identity. This is a well written book with nuances of a great telenovela drama while managing to keep the story light and refreshing.
