five stars for the first half, 3 for the second. i didn’t think i’d like this book but it’s bc i’d foolishly forgotten how much i trust suzanne collins to construct a story and infuse characters with nuance. having character development in a prequel must be sooo hard to write and suzanne does it so damn well
