Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore
5.0

This book is intriguing and mind boggling. At 12 midnight on January 1st, 1983, her 19th birthday (and with no previous sign of this weird time traveling condition), she passes out and is time warped to 2015, where she is transformed into her 51 year old body (but still has her 19 year old brain). Each following new year at 12 midnight, she is warped to another year, seemingly by random. “Future” her (from 2014) has left a note (HOW!??) explaining what has gone on and some basics on what to do, but not giving too many details.

Each year brings a different assortment of events and she is always longing to get back to 1983, which she does, eventually. Over the course of the book, she leaps about 7 times and finally gets back to 1983, which she has been obsessed about for 7 years. It’s guessed that as she goes forward into the future she will continue these time warps for the rest of her life, but the story wraps up nicely at 1983. I would like to know how other things wrap up, how her future selves orchestrated many of the events. There are peeks into these throughout, but I would have loved more! There were some slow parts, too, some so emotional they made me so sad! But the characters felt real and well fleshed out. If you can get over the mental gymnastics of her being there to leave herself a note, it’s fabulous. I’m still utterly perplexed by it all.
