Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler
4.0

Pretty heavy and even more prescient than the first book. A politician espousing white supremacist values rises to power wielding the Christian Right who, in order to Make America Great Again (not kidding, literally the slogan), begin to visit atrocities on all those not in line with those values. Many people of colour are put into camps and enslaved.

It is well written and scary in its speculation. It’s a post climate change America which has crippled the nation. The ways in which the country devolves are predictable. To its credit it feels fairly well balanced. Plenty of good happens as well. Both those things, as well as the hardships are truly, ferociously, believable.
