The Fell of Dark
by Caleb Roehrig
Okay, honestly I picked this up because I was on a vampire kick after midnight sun and I was drawn in with the fact that the MC was gay, and I'm kinda over vampire romances where the couple is always, ALWAYS straight. (Gays need their time to shine in the world of vampires too.)
So i was expecting your average, boy meets boy, boy turns out to be vampire. Other boy turns out to be the chosen one, chaos sex chaos, happily ever after.
That's not what happened and this book blew all my expectations out of the water.
It was an incredibly fast paced, action packed adventure, full of wit and sarcasm in the same vein as buffy the vampire slayer.
Auggie is a sixteen year old gay dude, who is failing math and happens to live in a vampire town, where the undead are drawn too because it lies on a nexus. Soon auggie starts to experience visions and horrible nightmares, lost time and plus an incredibly hot vampire turns up at his school with a cryptic "save the cheerleader save the world" message.
Turns out some ancient vampire entity that awaken once every 100 years or so and takes possession of a mortal, is starting to wake up in auggie, and he has to find a way to stop it before a massive vampire apocalypse happens, and while controlling his newfound powers. Not to mention his rampant hormons around not one but two incredibly hot vampire boys (who happen to be exs)
Not knowing who to trust, and being hunted by three ancient vampire factions and a secret society of vampire Hunter crusaders, auggie has to quickly figure out how to stop the ancient evil awakening in his body before it bursts out of him like the Kool-aid man, and somehow still keep his curfew.
This book was filled with so many great characters, especially auggie who is a sweetheart. I really resonated with him and your heart does bleed for him as he struggles to come to terms with what is happening and his frustrations at everyone around him. (He just wants to go on a date with the cute barista and make out, sake.) Jude and Gunner were great aswell, both caring about auggie in their own way and honestly it was the first time I would be okay reading about a throuple. (Come on that threesome biting scene was really effing hot.)
It's full of witches, sorcery, gay vampires, sarcasm, teenage hormons, undead cultists, murderous crusaders, honestly what's not to love?
Five stars all the way, I am so in love with this fresh take on vampires.
