Raine, Merrick’s friend from another lifetime, offers them the refuge they seek; where King Rioner can’t get to them. While devastated and healing, Lessia continues her training with Merrick so she is prepared to fight if it comes down to it. Lessia is reunited with someone she thought she would never see again, learns about a prophecy that may help them, and makes an unlikely new friend. While Merrick is still growly and grumpy as ever (which I love), we gained insight into who he is and what shaped him.
