Trigger warnings ** abuse, sexual abuse**

Oh this is so hard to rate and review. I loved the premise, and the storyline so, so promising.
A+ for plot. A+ for the slow burn of a reveil - this is a prim example of 'show don't tell'; you get a great tease of horrible things, leading you to your own conclusions which then gradually gt confirmed. 4.5 rating for plot!
HOWEVER... The characterization really lets this book down :( It is split into differing perspectives, but told in third person - the result is that each narrative doesn't have a unique voice and it was often hard to remember who it was that you were following at that point in time. The characters were also really underdeveloped and evoked zero empathy. This caused a disconnect between being upset about the things that were happening for the pure sake that it was horrible, and being upset because it was happening TO them. There was no empathy for any of the characters, who were all rather flat and stagnant, so things that should have really hit you in the feels didn't, because you had no connection to the characters they were happening to.

I wanted to love this so much, it had so, so much potential. I just need more from characters that this book was able to give me.
