This book has such a great premise and there are moments of reality great writing but overall the main character is just not likeable and doesn't really do anything to earn any kind of endearment from the reader. In a post-apocolyptic genre, where you're meant to cheer for someone's survival, you kind of don't. There's a limit to the suspension of belief. Someone nearly losing their hand in a generator does not go out for a walk or reinjure their arm over and over the next day and stay chipper and functional. Finally, I found the romantic relationship really difficult to get behind. It felt like a very toxic dependable and not much more.
