Watchmen by Alan Moore

The only graphic novel in the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list. I’ve had it on my TBR for awhile but it was recently added to Kindle Unlimited so I had to pick it up.

I watched the movie a few years ago and I’m glad I now read the comics, it really tells the whole story.

After reading this novel I am not surprised it has gained such recognition. The story is contains controversial political stances, historical fiction, marketing issues, domestic violence, rape, racist remarks, far left and right stereotypes and a desire for a better world.

The historical fiction is that America is approaching WW III with the Soviets and this is what brought masked superhero’s out of retirement. The novel jumps through space and time and has multiple plot stories going on. It contains so much in each 9 square grid. This was my first graphic novel and I’m so happy I read it. There are multiple adaptations and its creator, Alan Moore, has recently expressed his desire to not have any more adaptations.
