Anastasia is one of my favourite childhood movies so when I heard this would be a retelling of that story I was already hooked. However, it is not a step-by-step retelling, of course, I could have known that but a step-by-step retelling was what I was hoping for. There are a lot of parallels but it took me a while to get into the story. I enjoyed it regardless and the ending wants me to have the second book now.
