Plot or Character Driven: A mix

Well, it’s epic. Lots of adventure with intriguing world politics and clashing governing systems and beliefs —all built on a fantasy world of vast imagination.

The characters were well described but… but well, I lacked empathy (is that on me?) because they didn’t ask for me to care enough, they didn’t really grasp my attention or draw me in quite the way I’d hoped and wanted. And I wanted to love them more. But meh. It just wasn’t there. Not for me.

However, it was epic. And epic is loads of fun. An epic tale stretching and twining around a complicated plot amid a stunning world-build gets you a four-star rating—even if I’m more of a strong-characters girl.

The journey drives a hard tempo and swerves with surprises, and adversaries taunt along the way, all the while we’re hoping our band of common heroes finds success. There are some thrilling battle scenes, and a world build that’s well thought through to keep interest.

At the end of the read, though, I’m going to have to be contrary to myself and admit that The Wheel of Time television series is more worthwhile than reading this book.

You never heard me say that.
