An Illusion of Thieves by Cate Glass
3.0

A mediocre heist novel. It's paced like middle grade but has adult themes, so it's a decent choice if you don't want to think too much and just want some adventure and a decent magic system. I really liked that it was Italian-inspired, the names were all so beautiful and it gave a nice visual.
Spoiler I think there were way too many goddamn sorcerors in a world where everyone is legitimately terrified of magic and drowns their kids if they display magic talent, but I'm very picky about my magic systems. My biggest problem is that the heist was too easy. The first half of the book was just plodding along with no real goal, and then bam heist. But everything they wanted to happen, happened, and everything went according to plan. I kept waiting for the big disaster but it never came. I also kept waiting for the romance with Placidio to start and it never did. I am just happy the plot was wrapped up neatly at the end so I don't feel like I need to read the next.
