I Gave it to the Pages by Zemi Stewart nee Holland is a hard hitting piece of work. The title explains exactly what Stewart does with her emotions, she gives it to the pages. As a reader, you can feel the scope of her emotions throughout the various poems. The way she’s able to translate the pain, sorrow, joy or happiness into the vessel of poetry is inspirational. The poetry surrounding Stewart’s mother were the hardest hitting. The emotion was infused throughout every word in this work.
I’m always inspired by how poets, such as Stewart, can capture such raw emotions and translate that into digestible media for the public to consume. The transparency that comes with showing your deepest self is baffling to me.
Bahamian poets continue to amaze me with their work.
