There are two types of books. First, the ones that take some time (at times half the book) for someone to actually start enjoying it. And the second, the book does absolutely nothing but you realise you can't part with it right from the first paragraph.

Tongue in Cheek falls into the latter category. I just had to read one paragraph to keep all my chores aside to sit down and enjoy the book. Listen, we all need a good laugh every often and this book offers exactly that. Written by an academic and a columnist, Khyrunnisa, the stories from this collection are all based on her experience. They're incredibly funny and no, it's not just the grinning-at-the-pages-type of funny but laugh-out-loud kind of funny.

She records her everyday happenings with a tonne of humour and wit, with her husband making a regular appearance in most of them. The stories are not something fancy but something that somehow every Indian would have inevitably faced one day or the other. And honestly, I think it's incredibly tough to make something as common as this to work so well. Take a bow, Khyrunnisa. You made an impossibly difficult task of making me laugh like a piece of cake!
