Cruel Illusions by Margie Fuston

4.0

The pure confusion I experienced when I realised that this book is technically same universe as the authors other book I read?? I was like waittttt cool!

The MC annoyed me for a good chunk of the beginning she was so “not like other girls” it got irritating…but thankfully it did get better in the second half, it shouldn’t take 50% of a book to get better but I’m glad I stuck with it because it was fun ! I really adored it by the end! If you’re thinking of DNF’ing stick with it!

I wish the book really chose what it wanted to be a lot sooner as it felt like the author was trying to achieve too many things in just one book that the plot was quite off pace hence it taking 50% to get worth reading!! The story reallt got going by the 75% mark and i feel like it would have paid off better to be a duology rather than a standalone? So the 2nd half of the story had more time to be fleshed out and the whole competition hunger games thing coulda been even more and the fast paced ending coulda been longer, I did enjoy the amount of blood and gore in this book a lot it was cool af!

Anyway I did have a really fun time with the lore and Roman was dreamyyyyy (the references to other vampire media make me wonder if he’s named after Hemlock Grove’s Roman ♡) so I’m giving it 4* because I AM a sucker for vampires and the second half really pulled everything together!
