Reading this character’s unhealthy obsession to win back her ex while sleeping with HORRIBLE men was just not something that I thought would take up 80% of this book. I loved that the character fought for Black Lives Matter issues when they were brought up and it was wonderful to show the issues that white people just do not have to worry about. But I wish that was the majority. Not Queenie pining for her ex while letting men that treat her horribly (again and again) use and abuse her. I understand the point of this being such a large problem in the character’s life. But for her to allow these white men (that are trash!!) to treat her this way just made me want to scream in her face. I appreciated the author showing her recovery stage. But I just hated the emphasis on white men being allowed to abuse her in the ways that they did. It just wasn’t what I expected out of the novel and I wanted so much more for Queenie.
