The House in the Cerulean Sea
by TJ Klune
» QUICK OVERVIEW «
Stars: ★★★☆☆
Plot: ★★★☆☆
Readability: ★★★☆☆
Characters: ★★★★☆
Writing: ★★★★☆
Recommend: ✓
» PLOT «
Linus Baker works for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth (DICOMY), where he hops from orphanage to orphanage, making sure everything follows the RULES AND REGULATIONS set by DICOMY. But as he is called in for a special case off on an island with an orphanage that houses particularly dangerous children, Linus begins to questions the ways of DICOMY and connect with the children and their caretaker more than he thought he would.
The fantasy and the romance aspect of this book was lighter than expected, but that wasn't a bad thing. I actually really liked how casual the fantasy/magic was in this book.
This was really nice and fluffy, but I personally didn't gush over it.
» READABILITY «
I liked this book, but it wasn't the type of book that had me hooked all the way through. But overall, it's a simple and semi-quick read.
» CHARACTERS «
Sometimes, some of the children really blend together. Honestly in a week, I'd forget who's who.
As for the adults in the book, I felt they were better written and I personally preferred reading about them compared to the children.
» WRITING «
The writing was perfection. I like the humorous juxtaposition that Klune uses. And I know it can be over used, but in this case, I though it fit well.
» OVERALL «
I do like this book, but there's nothing really that memorable about this book that bump it up to 5 stars.
