The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
by Bessel van der Kolk
This was without a doubt a heavy-hitter. I found myself needing time to process each chapter, as the weight of the information really stayed with me. I’ll definitely need to reread my notes to fully absorb everything.
As disturbing as the real-life examples included in the book were, I’m grateful the author chose to include them—they were instrumental in helping me recognize and understand aspects of my own experiences. I especially appreciated how the book offered clear, practical tools and techniques that can be applied right away.
One of the most impactful parts for me was the behavioral analysis of traumatized individuals. It genuinely shifted my perspective and helped me understand certain actions that used to trigger me. I can now more easily see the truth behind someone’s behavior rather than just reacting to it.
It was tough, emotional, and at times very challenging to read—but absolutely worth it.
